Nemrut Dağ, Turkey – photographed at night for Our Place.

Photographers who care and share

Photography could be called the easy art. Everybody can do it, and for most, the camera does all the hard work. Just point and shoot… However some people will want to attain a higher level of visual skills, and begin to “say” something with their images rather than just show something. Their challenge is to take memorable photos; not just snaps.

Our Place depends on good imagery to spread our message about the important values that reside in UNESCO World Heritage sites and as there are over 1000 sites in nearly 200 countries, our photographers must also be able to travel to the sites and have the ability to quickly find the best aspects of these diverse locations. They also must be able to negotiate the inevitable human relationship challenges of shooting in often foreign environments and cultural situations; and they succeed in bringing back evocative and often superb images which capture the essence of these important places. As we don’t have a large budget to send photographers on assignment to often remote locations, OP relies on the goodwill and skills of some dedicated enthusiasts who are committed to documenting  and sharing their vision of some of the world’s important heritage assets. The galleries below are contributions from two of these people, we thank James and Erika and the rest of the OP team for their talented and valued contributions in helping us further our mission.

We at Our Place wish you a joyous and relaxing festive season and a great 2018.
