Greetings ,

OUR PLACE at the IUCN Congress, Jeju, Korea

Earlier this month the IUCN Congress was held in Jeju Island, Korea. This was the four yearly gathering of the key organisations and interested parties involved in Global Conservation and environmental protection issues. OUR PLACE supplied a number of large images for wall displays; a multi image slide show, and some specific pictures for an animated globe devise. The OP images were featured at the “Protected Planet” pavilion, which focused on natural sites designated UNESCO World Heritage and Biosphere locations. This pavilion was the venue for forums and discussions on conservation and protection issues around these important locations.
With 10,000 committed people attending the congress, it was tempting to conclude that the important issues around natural site conservation were already understood by the majority of the world’s citizens. Everybody at the Congress seemed to know the issues and shared their knowledge and concerns.
However it only took a dose of reality supplied by the various bad news environmental stories in the international newspapers and TV links available outside the convention centre, to bring us back to facing the hard facts. There is a long and difficult road ahead to creating a sustainable planet for our growing population.
The challenges facing our planet are not solved by preaching to the converted at events like the Congress. While it is a very positive and useful forum, it is only the first step in building a platform from which to spread the environmental conservation message into the wider global community.
Effective and targeted communication is the key, and all devises and methods must be used to give the broadest possible reach to the message. At OUR PLACE we specialise in visual communication as we believe that this speaks across most cultural barriers. More importantly, it can be used to build an emotional link between the subject and recipient.
To reinforce our skills in this area and to be able to supply a more comprehensive service to the heritage communities, OUR PLACE will be announcing an exciting new direction for our company in the next few weeks.
We will be building on our proven track record as the world’s experts on World Heritage site documentation and promotion, by expanding our services with a new association and by adding new specialist expertise in heritage communication and marketing.
Watch this space. We will be in contact soon with our new developments...
